South Bend Tribune Ad
We would like to clarify some points regarding the ad that was published in the South Bend Tribune on January 21. St. Joseph County Right to Life does not oppose health care reform, and the intention of those whose names appear with the ad is not to oppose health care reform. We are against only those possible provisions of health care legislation that include coverage of abortion, euthanasia, or assisted suicide. The Stupak Amendment that was included in the House version of the bill, does specifically exclude abortion coverage; however, the Senate version of the bill does not include a similar amendment and thereby does not specifically exclude abortion coverage. The Tribune ad states that the “current health care legislation will dramatically increase” the number of abortions. This statement refers to the current Senate bill only. The final bill will be determined by a special committee that will reconcile the differences between the two versions. St. Joseph County Right to Life encourages Congress to create a final version of the health care bill that will clearly exclude coverage of abortion, euthanasia, and assisted suicide.
