Brother John Lavelle, C.S.C. College Scholarship

The Brother John Lavelle College Scholarship empowers young adult students to excel at pro-life leadership and activism, helping to build up the culture of life amongst high school seniors and college students in our community in a powerful way. Each year, one exemplary pro-life student leader is honored with a $500 cash scholarship to be put toward expenses incurred while continuing education. The award is presented at the Respect Life Prayer Dinner in June.

Brother John Lavelle, C.S.C., was a tireless advocate for the pro-life cause at Notre Dame in the 1970s and 1980s. His work with college students inspired countless young people to carry on his mission.

The Brother John Scholarship is open to all graduating high school seniors and current college students.

Congratulations to the 2021 Recipient of the Brother John Lavelle Scholarship: Mary Benz

Mary Benz is a recent graduate of the University of Notre Dame, having just completed her Bachelor of Arts degree in Theology and Pre-Medicine in May 2021. She first became involved in the pro-life movement in eighth grade when she first attended the March for Life in Washington D.C.; the march was a very formative experience for her and compelled her to be more active in saving preborn lives. While at Notre Dame, she was heavily involved with her college's right to life chapter, eventually serving on the executive board of the club. Now that she is graduated, she plans to attend medical school in Michigan and hopes to have a large pro-life family in the future.
