Representative Walorski and Senator Zakas Pen Statements to Government Officials Regarding Prospective Abortion Clinic in South Bend

SOUTH BEND, Ind. — Both US Representative Jackie Walorski and State Senator Joe Zakas publicly wrote to the Indiana Health Dept and Gov. Eric Holcomb respectively opposing the opening of a new abortion facility in South Bend. The abortion mill planned is run by Whole Women’s Health Alliance, an out of state business from Austin, TX.

Indiana Senator Joe Zakas, from District 11, took swift action following the announcement of an abortion business trying to open in South Bend. Sen. Zakas, whose district includes part of St. Joseph County, wrote to Gov. Eric Holcomb on Oct. 18. In the letter, Sen. Zakas shared that he heard from hundreds of constituents in just one weekend following the news of the abortion business’s application.

Sen. Zakas also cites a South Bend Tribune article that links the proposed abortion business’s administrator with Dr. Ulrich Klopfer’s now-shuttered South Bend abortion facility. The proposed administrator was on staff for Klopfer, according to the article. Klopfer’s abortion facilities in Gary, Fort Wayne, and South Bend had a long list of health and safety violations against them and Klopfer eventually lost his medical license in 2016.

Rep. Jackie Walorski wrote Indiana’s new Health Commissioner, Dr. Kristina Box, urging the state to reject the application for a new abortion facility in South Bend. Rep. Walorski cited the nearly 50 percent drop in annual abortions on St. Joseph County women since Klopfer closed his doors as progress in reducing the abortion rate. Her letter goes on to make clear exactly how she feels about a new abortion facility trying to open in her congressional district:

“I urge you in the strongest possible terms to reject the application from Whole Woman’s Health Alliance, sending a powerful signal that Indiana cherishes the value of life and will continue the push to reduce the state’s abortion rate.”

Thank you for your support of our most vulnerable individuals in our county!  We are grateful for your public witness to LIFE!
