Prevention and Monitoring Task Forces
Right to Life is committed to defending and protecting innocent human life from fertilization to natural death. Sitting on state committees for both legislation and enforcement/regulatory oversight, we work with affiliates throughout Indiana to assess current threats and develop a strategic response geared toward prevention and monitoring of anti-life policies and practices. Recognizing the severity of particular local threats, we have assembled special task forces of community professionals to develop and execute these strategies as they pertain to our area.
Abortion Task Force
Having had an active abortion facility in our community for over 40 years and no other clinic operating in all of northern Indiana for the time being, we recognize that our area is particularly vulnerable to abortion’s return. We are at risk of the local Planned Parenthood expanding to offer abortions, and new abortionists have already been applying for licenses to operate in our state. Our task force works to assess and monitor these threats, cut them off at the head, and formulate a strategic plan for continued action, should the threats materialize.
Euthanasia/PAS Task Force
Advocates for so-called “Death With Dignity” legislation are working hard to gain a foothold for widespread acceptance of euthanasia/physician-assisted suicide (PAS) in our community. Their strategy is hauntingly similar to the one that was used to legalize abortion 46 years ago: change the terminology, stretch the truth, and make it sound like a compassionate choice that is in everyone’s best interest. As we found out when we attended incognito a lecture given at a local public library by a representative of Compassion and Choices, pro-euthanasia advocates are working to reintroduce legislation in our state and “educate” legislators on the supposed necessity. Our task force is closely monitoring this situation, developing plans to fortify the community before opposing efforts break, and working with broader alliances to oppose these threats.
